Vein Thrombosis

Signs & Symptoms Of Deep Vein Thrombosis

If you suffer from varicose veins or venous insufficiency, it is important to know the signs and symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis before it is too late. The following symptoms might be related to Deep Vein Thrombosis itself or Pulmonary Embolism (PE), another serious medical condition if not treated:

  • Swelling of the leg or along a vein in the leg
  • Pain, tenderness and heavy feelings in the leg, which may only be felt while standing or when walking
  • Increased warmth in the area of the leg that is swollen and painful
  • Red or discolored skin on the leg

Studies show that only about half of the people who have Deep Vein Thrombosis actually exhibit the signs and symptoms listed above. The other half does not experience any symptoms at all. This is why it is important for you to complete a free varicose and spider vein screening at UNM Vein & Cosmetic Center in Albuquerque. Our board-certified vascular surgeons will examine the health of your veins and help determine your risk for Deep Vein Thrombosis and other venous diseases. If our diagnostic procedures identify Deep Vein Thrombosis, we will refer to you to the hospital for further treatment.
