Academic Background:

Dr Wernly graduated with Honors from The University of Rosario School of Medicine in Argentina and subsequently obtained all his surgical training at the University of Chicago, Il. He joined the Department of Surgery at the University New Mexico School of Medicine in 1983. Between 1988 and June of 2012 he was the Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of Thoracic Residency Program at this institution. During his tenure here, he has held multiple clinical and administrative posts in the organization. He is the author of 85 publications in major specialty journals and 15 chapters in cardiothoracic surgical books. In addition he has presented his research at multiple scientific societies both nationally and internationally. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeon as well member of major Thoracic Surgical societies including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), The Western Thoracic Surgery Association (WTSA) and the European Association of Cardio Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) among others.
