Dr Dietl is an Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. He graduated from Medical School at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1971. He did all his postgraduate residency training at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland, Oregon, and he is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr Dietl is the author of 35 publications in major specialty journals and the author of 4 book chapters. He is a member of several professional societies including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the Western Thoracic Surgical Association (WTSA), the International College of Surgeons (ICS), and the Foundation for the Advancement of Cardio-Thoracic Surgical Care (FACTS).
